Energy, Queensland, Australia has over recent years purchased significant quantities
of DC supply and back-up systems from Magellan Powertronics. This has in
general comprised of Magellan's in-house manufactured chargers, enclosures and
batteries supplied to them.
Personally, in the last 12 months I
have been responsible for ordering approximately 20 of Magellan’s chargers
and peripherals, batteries and enclosures.
I have found the materials
supplied by Magellan to be of a consistently high standard, meeting and exceeding
our requirements in most instances.
To date, there equipment has
been exceptionally reliable with no down time attributed to them.
When situations have arisen where we have required equipment urgently, Magellan
have consistently gone out of their way to accommodate our tight time frames,
manufacturing and supplying us with DC systems in as little as a fortnight.

Powertronics has supplied Western Power Corporation with a considerable number
of battery chargers for 50V and 110V DC Systems in our substations for a number
of years.
I am quite happy with the products received and the level of commitment
to quality and customer satisfaction displayed by Masoud Abshar and his colleagues.
This
has been especially evident in his working to resolve a number of design issues
raised by the WPC team responsible for inspecting, testing and commissioning the
DC systems. Magellan met particular design enhancements requested by us quickly

HydroTasmania
HydroTasmania has over the last two
years purchased a small number of DC battery and charger systems from Magellan.
Our last installation in which I was directly involved, comprised of a dual (main
and duplicate system) battery and charger system being installed at one of our
Mersey Forth Power Stations. Both these battery and charger systems have switchgear,
which enables parallel connections with different loads and different states of
battery charge during abnormal station conditions
The Magellan
battery chargers went through a stringent on site test procedure. Under different
switching arrangements and using a storage scope we checked each charger DC output
stability (ie high DC starting spikes and “hunting”) under a series
of loads and different states of battery charge. These tests found that the
chargers performed very satisfactorily under all conditions without any site modifications.
The chargers are still in service and no problems have been reported
Magellan was pro-active in the design of the chargers to meet Hydro Tasmania design
requirements and listened to our requirements of manufacture.
We
found the chargers to be technically quite advanced. Magellan has a professional
approach to their business and have a nationwide technical support team which
is important to Hydro Tasmania.
